Arzu Tekir is a Business Strategist specialized in smart and sustainable city solutions. She helps entrepreneurs, technology companies define market opportunities, develop growth strategies, and fundraising. She has eighteen years of work experience in strategic planning, business development, strategic partnership development, and record of raising millions of funding dollars for large-scale public and private sector projects.
She is the Founder & CEO of URBANITE VENTURE helping urban tech companies transform cities. To companies solving urban problems, Urbanite Venture is the independent advisor and business partner that brings new market opportunities, better relations with the city administrations, effective communication plan and capital.
Arzu has recently founded Career Transformation Academy to help professionals and entrepreneurs transform their careers, move on with confidence, and grow their businesses. As a social entrepreneur, her purpose is to raise funding to support MSc and Ph.D. students studying STEM subjects in her home country, Turkey.
She founded the country office of the World Resources Institute's EMBARQ Sustainable Transport Program. As the Executive Director for World Resources Institute Ross Center for Sustainable Cities in Turkey, Arzu and her team partnered with the national government and sixteen cities in Turkey and two cities in Africa to improve the quality of lives and to create a positive impact on urban mobility and urban sprawl and urban efficiency.
Previously to WRI, Arzu advised technology companies in Istanbul. She worked as European Union Projects Coordinator and External Relations Director for IT companies producing technology solutions for the cities, directed the financing of the projects and established strategic partnerships. As the new manager, she rebuilt a management consultancy company which had been inoperative for the previous three years when she started in 2003 and ran it for about two years.
She was named as one of the Women of Courage Turkey by Dunya Finance & Business Daily and as one of Top 19 Women in the Environment, Yesilist, Turkey's first green-living, and sustainability platform. She was selected to the Global Ambassadors Program, organized by Vital Voices and Bank of America. Recently she was selected by The American Turkish Society as one of its "Young Society Leaders," a group of 11 accomplished professionals w/ a demonstrated record of leadership ability/commitment to serve the U.S.-Turkish community.
Arzu has been featured in various media outlets including, The Guardian, National Geographic Energy Challenge Blog, Jazeera Magazine, Bloomberg HT TV and NTV-MSNBC. As a sought-after speaker, she gives talks and moderates discussions on entrepreneurship, innovation in urban transportation and cities.
She holds an MA in econometrics from Dokuz Eylul University and a bachelor's degree in statistics from Ege University. She completed the programs on Smart Cities-Management of Smart Urban Infrastructures at EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), Leadership Programme - Global Challenges of Transport at Oxford University, and Performance Measurement for Effective Management of Nonprofit Organisations at Harvard Kennedy School.
